With support for millions of colors and many animated scenes, Nanoleaf Lines can come up with whatever you want. They are most mesmerizing in a dark room, going through colors, but are quite flexible. I use the effect of daylight to brighten up my office during the day and banish the dark winter outside, then switch to flowing animated colors at night.
The application is not the simplest, but it is worth logging in to view and download scenes. There are many options and you can make your own. But I spent too much time creating an amazing scene, so I recommend just choosing from the popular list in the Discover section.
Fortunately, you don’t have to use the Nanoleaf app much, as you can connect Lines to Google Assistant via the Home app or connect them to Apple’s HomeKit or Amazon’s Alexa. They also support IFTTT, Samsung SmartThings and can extend connectivity for Thread devices by acting as a Thread router.
Smart sync
What elevates the Nanoleaf lines compared to the cheaper options are the sleek synchronization capabilities. Once an addition to the original panels, the Nanoleaf Rhythm module is built-in here, which means that the lines can respond to any music playing in the room. This is great when you want a party atmosphere. The colors pulsate in time to the melodies.
I placed the lines over my desk and was excited to test the reflection effect of the screen, which matches the colors with everything on your computer monitor. You need to run the Nanoleaf desktop app for this to work (this means it won’t work with your TV unless you’re using a computer or laptop with its big screen). But PC gamers will get a kick out of it. It adds a little more immersion and Razer fans will be happy to see Razer Chroma support as well.
Nanoleaf Lines look much better lit than off, but they’re not as ugly as panels when you’re not using them. You still need to consider whether matte white plastic (there are optional leathers in matte black or pink for an extra $ 20) will fit your decor. They will not look out of place with a play setting, a modern minimalist office or a children’s room, but they will collide in some settings. Some additional options, such as wood paneling, could help them blend in with other rooms. Unfortunately, wherever you place them, you’re stuck with the power cord running down the wall and just looking messy.
At $ 200 for a starter kit with just nine lines and $ 70 for an extension kit with three, they are very expensive. Perhaps the closest competitor, Glide’s Govee light strips, start at half that price. But the Nanoleaf lines produce beautiful lighting effects that are guaranteed to pay attention and work seamlessly with any smart home setting. After spending a few weeks with them, I am convinced that they are the best the company has to offer.
